Super Glue Your New Year’s Resolution

Here's a post I did last year on 'making your resolutions stick' which I find might benefit you, there you go!

———

Its 26 days past Year 2010! Are you still sticking to your new year’s resolution of getting in shape, becoming fitter & healthier than ever? Or have you begun to slow down…motivation and determination wearing off…

If you’re still accelerating forward, and picking up the pace, Congratulations!!! You’re already two steps ahead of the rest…because most individuals have their bad habits creeping back in without their knowledge -  e.g. infrequent and skipped meals, snacking on junk foods, pushing ahead their workouts due to their ‘busy schedules’,  letting their gym memberships go idle, etc…

Are you sticking to your resolutions?Come on! Research has proven that it takes roughly 21 days to instil a new habit, so the first 21 days is crucial to your fitness success. Trust me, by then, everything becomes easier -  you’ll start to enjoy your workouts, you’ll favor eating healthy, and you’ll definitely love your new lifestyle beyond 21 days!

The key to fitness success is not setting your resolutions, but sticking to them. Commitment and persistence is the two main ingredient factors. And you know it!

Ask yourself: 1) How many New Year Resolutions did you make since millennium 2000?
                      2) How many New Year Resolutions did you commit to before you quit or put it off til the next year?

I understand there are a million reasons to why your health & fitness resolutions didn’t work out. But down to the core, I can sum out 3: – Motivation, Approach, Guidance.

Motivation – What’s your real reason for making a change? Your inner (drive) desires will keep you moving forward when the tough gets going. As the swarm of ‘excuse’ bugs start to invade your body and mind, your motivation acts as the ‘repellent’ to wipe them out.  Keep it Real!

Approach – You have to understand that nothing comes free. You need to take care of your body before it takes care of you. So  engaging yourself in unhealthy diets and excessive exercise may seem to deliver quick results in the short term, but you’re certainly going to damage your body, and these ‘results’ will backfire in the long run. In short, you want a balanced nutrition, adequate sum of resistance exercise and cardiovascular activities.

Guidance – Even if you have the strongest motivation and the right mindset, you need to have the knowledge to apply them to your lifestyle. You go on a diet thinking it’s right for you, you start an exercise routine believing it’s going to work  like magic, just as long as you follow it to the comma’s and period’s. If being fit & healthy and staying in shape is as easy as reading a health or weight loss book,  popping a diet pill or shake, or watching an exercise video – why in the world is obesity on the rise, along with the associated risks such as coronary heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, cancer, etc? Go figure. There’s no shortcut.  Wait, there is! The only shortcut is to get guidance. Not just any guidance, but professional guidance where one has the experience and credentials in the field, to ensure and maximize your results in minimum time and effort, and more importantly – minimizing the risk of injury!
